The first annual Logan Whitehurst Memorial Awards for Excellence in Comedy Music (aka "The Logan Awards") will be held on October 15, 2011 in Akron, Ohio, as part of the music program at Con on the Cob. The awards are sponsored by the Funny Music Project (The FuMP).
Insane Ian's song "Our Love Song - feat. The Stacey" is nominated for Outstanding Original Comedy Song! Thanks to all the fans who suggested it for nomination, and thanks to this year's jurors (Danny Birt, Austin Aeschliman, Jean Prior, Will Simpson, Will Frank, "Weird Al" Yankovic and Dr. Demento!) for selecting it as one of the five nominees!

New FuMP! "Umbrella Chronicles - Marie Digby as a MoFo Version"
Resident Evil is one of my favorite game series EVER. In fact, the game will be celebrating it's 15th Anniversary this year. Capcom, the games' publisher, has FOUR Resident Evil games being released this year. Today on Playstation Network and Xbox Live: Games on Demand we have the HD re-release of one of the best games in the series, Resident Evil 4, and next week it's the HD re-release of the oft-overlooked Resident Evil: Code Veronica X.
On my first album, n3rds0ngs, I parodied the hit Rihanna song "Umbrella" with "Umbrella Chronicles", about the corrupt corporation in the series, from the view point of the characters from the first game. Since Marie Digby covered Rihanna's song acoustically, I'm doing my own HD re-release to commemorate the games anniversary.
Because really, I always need another song about zombies...and another tribute to a video game. This track will be available on "Grand Theft Audio", hopefully due out this holiday.

New FuMP! "(If You're Wondering If I'm Stalking You) I'm Stalking You"
A few months ago, Jace McLain of Nuclear Bubble Wrap told me he was working on a parody of Weezer's "[If You're Wondering If I Want You To] I Want You To"about a stalker. It seems he thinks Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo shouldn't be writing songs from the perspective of a teenager anymore, especially now that he's in his forties and had that groovy pedo-stache for a while. Jace wanted to write a song that took this creepy factor and multiplied it.
Personally, I didn't think it was creepy enough.
After NBW announced they were no longer doing parodies, I asked Jace if I could take a crack at the song, since his version would never be released, and the end result is here. This is yet another track from my perpetually-in-pre-order CD/DVD Collection "Grand Theft Audio", which I will have out by the end of this year if it kills me.

New FuMP! "Unbound - The Horcrux Song"
The last Harry Potter movie is out now! Time to milk that cash cow one final time!
In celebration of this, and the fact that Rivers Cuomo of Weezer looks like a grown-up HP, I figured making an EP that featured parodies of Weezer songs about Wizards was a great idea! All it took was a simple math equation:
Wizard Rock + Weezer = WEEZARD!
Now, that EP was supposed to be released today but, sadly, the recording process got held up due to an unfortunate incident at the studio...but it's still coming! It'll just be a few weeks later than anticipated. It's mostly finished, just...delayed.
This here is another track from it. If you like it [and its companion Harry Potter] please go and pre-order the EP!
Featuring:
Ron: Ben Stahl
Harry: Ian Bonds
Hermione: Meredith Kenton

New FuMP! "Hard Corps (Green Lantern's Light) - feat. The Stacey"
Since the Green Lantern movie hits theaters this weekend, I figured a new song about the hero was about due. And since it's a song about a superhero, that pretty much guarantees that some form of this song will be on the upcoming "Songs for Superheroes" EP.

Austin Aeschliman of Smashy Claw and Jace McLain of Nuclear Bubble Wrap are producing the newest Weird Al tribute album, and Insane Ian has contributed a track! Ian covers "That Boy Could Dance" and, true to Al's form, does so in the style of another artist! This time, he's "GooGoo for GaGa"!
Also, CoverMeSongs.com has a brief blurb about Ian's cover on the CD! Check out the article here, and don't forget to pre-order the tribute, out June 14th!

New FuMP! "Super-Powers"
So, "Thor" just opened this past weekend, and I realized that there are a whopping NINE COMIC BOOK-BASED MOVIES this year. Amazing. [That list, if you're curious, is Green Hornet, Thor, Dylan Dog: Dead of Night, Priest, X-Men: First Class, Green Lantern, Captain America: The First Avenger, Cowboys and Aliens and Conan.]
Since the world has such an obsession with comics and superheroes, I figured I'd explore that in song, with some cool power ideas provided by friends and fans Bob Rose, Cassie Alt, Robin Wiestcher, Mike Smith, Kiki Canon and David Dave.
This track is from the forthcoming "Songs for Superheroes" EP, due out...eventually.

New FuMP! "Bob-Omb!"
While working on "The Super Epic Video Game Medley II: Championship Edition" I was trying to think of a good parody of Bruno Mars' "Grenade". There were a few parodies on YouTube already, but none really clicked with me comedically. MusicIAN Ben then suggested this one, and even gave me the first two lines of the chorus. I finished out the rhyme scheme for the next two lines, and then built from there. It was an idea we felt was too good NOT to do.
So good, in fact, that a music video just HAD to be made (Plus, if you're creative, you can re-arrange the letters in "Bruno Mars" to spell "Mario Bros". Kinda.). Since the original video is a few simple shots, making this video with absolutely NO BUDGET was actually fairly easy. Everything we used, we already had or borrowed from friends.
See the video HERE.
I'm thinking a Twitter campaign to get the attention of G4TV is in order. Please tweet the url of this song (or just the video) to @g4tv or @aots (or both) and let's see if we can get this thing viral!

New FuMP! "The Super Epic Video Game Medley II: Championship Edition"
Last year, I released an EP featuring all video game-based songs called "fairly EPic" (which is still available here). The first track was a medley of every song I EVER WROTE!!...about video games. Simply known as "The Epic Video Game Medley".
Basically, I had ideas for video game parodies, but I didn't feel they needed a full song...just the chorus and the occasional verse was enough to tell the joke. Well, I came up with more song ideas...and one I co-wrote with the great Luke Ski. Because, honestly...they can't all be DiG DuG.

New FuMP! "Cooler Than Me"
As a nerd, it's easy to be categorized as...shall we say, "socially awkward". There are somethings we do, say, or wear that just don't fit in with the normal standards of "cool". That said, often times we may have the opportunity to meet someone even MORE awkward than ourselves.
The subject of this song is the former. If these allegations be true, then the narrator of this tune must be the most unhip and non-cool person on the planet. Which, at times, HAS been me. I mean, hell, I had a mullet*. In college. On purpose.

New FuMP! "Yellow Snow"
Just in time for Christmas...Insane Ian's first "squick" song!
Wintertime brings colder weather, and men often have an advantage over women when it comes to what they can do in the snow. This song is about one woman's revenge on the singer for just that reason.

New FuMP! "Harry Potter"
As Harry's final (well, final 'til the second half is released) film hits theaters this weekend, he's starting to get a swelled head about his mark as "The Chosen One". Who would've thought The Boy Who Lived would be so cocky?
Parody of "Buddy Holly" by Weezer.11/19/2010
The fine folks over at the Nerdy Show podcast were kind enough to review II's latest effort, "The Last Arcade". You can check out what they think of it here. Hint: THEY REALLY ENJOYED IT! WOO!

The horror news site "Mr. Frights" caught wind of the slasher b-movie homage Insane Ian did with the help of Kiki Canon, Devo Spice & Schaffer the Darklord, so they featured it on their site, complete with an interview with II! In it, Ian reveals some info about some upcoming songs, as well as his next album project! You can check out out here.

New FuMP! "We're All Gonna Die - feat. Kiki Canon, Devo Spice & Schaffer the Darklord"
At last year's Marscon, Kiki Canon--aka Voice of Kiki--pitched an idea to me that she had for a song that explored horror movie tropes. As we discussed it further over the following months, it evolved into this recording. We enlisted the help of Devo Spice and Schaffer the Darklord to play the roles of characters in our own musical horror movie, just in time for Halloween.
Special extra cameo appearances from Luke Ski and Carrie Dahlby as the opening "couple".9/17/2010
New FuMP! "CosPlaying FanGurls - feat. the great Luke Ski"
Cosplay- verb, [short for "costume roleplay"]: a type of performance art in which participants don costumes and accessories to represent a specific character or idea, drawn from such sources as Science Fiction and/or Fantasy TV shows, books, and movies, Comics books or Video Games.
The female fans who participate in this activity are of particular interest to Insane Ian and the great Luke Ski (with a brief cameo by Chris Waffle), and their dedication to their craft (and the fact that they bring our favorite characters to so-close-we-can-look-but-not-touch distance) should be proclaimed in song...in this case, as a parody of the HUGELY popular "California Gurls" by Katy Perry featuring Snoop Dogg.
(And yes, I know that similar parodies exist. This is a parody of one of the most popular songs in the country...there are literally dozens of different takes on this. This one is mine.)
